Thongs vs. G-Strings: WTF is the Difference?
Share
All G-strings are thongs but all thongs aren’t G-strings. We know they aren’t interchangeable, but what exactly is the difference? Sometimes it’s easy to tell them apart, but based on the specific design, drawing a distinction between the two can get confusing. This is your definitive guide to end the confusion once and for all!
Table of Contents
❓ What is a Thong?
- Narrow back strap that provides some coverage
- Typically has a wider waistband for a more secure fit
- Balances comfort, style, and sexiness
- Generally great for everyday wear—at work, home, the gym, swimming, and more
🧵 What is a G-String?
- Has an extra-thin back strap, sometimes just a tiny string
- Usually has a minimal waistband or a string as well
- Offers the least coverage for an almost-naked feel
- These can be everyday wear as well, but they’re often worn for times when things get hot-and-heavy
🤔 Where the Confusion Lies

✅ Determining Factor
- The back strap that goes between your cheeks ultimately determines which is which
- Thin back straps only features a single piece of elastic is a G-String
- Slightly wider back straps that feature two pieces of elastic is a Thong
- ⚠️ NOTE: If the waistband straps are spaghetti-strap-thin, and the middle strap is also extremely narrow but has two pieces of elastic, it's a g-string! Any space of fabric between those pieces of elastic would make it a thong.

💯 Personal Experience & Recommendation

If you were to ask me which I prefer, I predominantly wear thongs more. I like the sensation of the little extra fabric against my package, taint, & hole, and it also shows off the pattern/color of the fabric more. Another major reason is when hitting the beaches, I prefer my tanlines to be more pronounced.
🏁 Final Thoughts
No matter which one you choose, both Thongs & G-Strings offer sexiness no matter what situation you're in.
